Evening for Chuck on MySpace!
Mark your calendar for the Fourth Annual An Evening for Chuck Sunday, September 13th, 2008
"AN EVENING FOR CHUCK” honors a staple of the area Music Community and raises money and awareness for Pancreatic Cancer!
The area music community lost a great man on February 18th, 2006 to Pancreatic Cancer. Chuck Freidhof was, for the last 7 years of his life, the manager/soundman for Ohio's premier singer/ songwriter and next break out artist, 22 year old ZACH. He was also an advisor and mentor to many in the community and a respected businessman.
“An Evening for Chuck” will take place on September 13th at Musica (17 Maiden Lane, Akron, Ohio 44308 -- Near the corner of Main and Market) from Noon-6pm. There will be a $10 suggested donation at the door, and ALL proceeds will go to the Evening for Chuck fund, which is set up through the Lustgarten Foundation, the national organization dedicated to researching and fighting Pancreatic Cancer, one of the most lethal cancers, with a 95% mortality rate.
Music is a main part of the evening. Last year's performers were some of the best musicians in the region, including Zach, Winslow, Lost State of Franklin, Faces Made For Radio, T.M. Göttl, and the Just Love to Sing Gospel Choir. This year features currently include Zach, T.M. Göttl, and Faces Made for Radio with more to be announced soon. Zach will again headline the show with an inspired set featuring many special guests!
Raffles will be held throughout the event and are $2/ticket or 6 for $10. Last year's prizes included an a new car donated by Spitzer Chevy, a original artwork, a private Zach House Concert, and much more!
Zach, who is also Chuck’s son, organized this event to “honor a great man who meant a lot not only to my music and life, but to the whole area music scene. And it’s also to raise awareness of and money to research and fight Pancreatic Cancer, a disease that only 5 years ago, had absolutely no research or funding, and has no early detection process. By the time you know you have it, it’s too late.”
“More and more people are having to face this horrible disease, and there is no reason that they shouldn’t have some hope. This event is to remember our friends and loved ones, and to give the rest of us hope.”
Local sportscaster Casey Coleman was diagnosed on the same day as Chuck. Actor Michael Landon passed away from Pancreatic Cancer in 1991, opera star Luciano Pavorati lost his battle in 2008, and Dirty Dancing actor Patrick Swayze has also been diagnosed.
